What is Energy Benchmarking?
Energy benchmarking is the process of comparing your energy performance to something similar. “Something similar” might be internal, like performance at the same time last year. Or it might be external, like performance compared to similar facilities elsewhere.
You can compare your energy performace internally or externally by creating and maintaining an ENERGY STAR Portfolio. This portfolio can generate an ENERGY STAR score for your building or plant, that will indicate how it is performing against peer facilities nationwide. For example, a score of 50 is typical, while a 30 means your facility is only more efficient than 30 percent of peer facilities. A score of 75 or higher means your facility is a top performer — and eligible for ENERGY STAR certification.
